the bamboo craft techniques of the Tohoku region, then move to another area and carry on that tradition in their work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cfigure materials.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn Japan, the types of bamboo that grow naturally vary by area\u003cbr\u003e—such as shinodake, medake, madake, nemagari bamboo, and moso bamboo—\u003cbr\u003eso once the location changes, it becomes difficult to obtain the same materials used in other regions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn this case, the maker harvests medake bamboo growing in the mountains of Ehime and Kochi, \u003cbr\u003eusing it as a substitute for shinodake, and prepares the material themselves while weaving each zaru.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMedake is sometimes referred to as “shinodake” because of its similar appearance, \u003cbr\u003ebut in fact it is harder than the shinodake used in Miyagi, resulting in a sturdier finished
